For those of you who don’t know Jolie Holland, you should take the time to find out, listen and then plan on seeing her live when she visits a city near you on her upcoming winter tour. Maybe you remember the Be Good Tanyas? She was a founding member but now, for good reason, she’s flying solo. Holland will be promoting her upcoming release Escondida across the U.S. this month and next, which will be a breath of fresh air for fans of great singer-songwriters. Live, her voice is soft and sweet, but her performance is powerful and sublime. You don’t even have to take our word for it, NPR raves, “Jolie Holland has a voice reminiscent of some of the great old blues vocalists, but the fresh approach of a 21st century singer and songwriter…and unschooled style with soul and heartache.”
