NYC’s The National Sign With Beggars

When we put The National on the Player .049 as an unsigned band, we knew that it wouldn’t be long before someone scooped them up. Stellar musicianship, thoughtful lyrics and the deep, brooding voice of Matt Berninger also made this band a staple in my own personal iTunes playlist oh so many moons ago. Their sophomore album, Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers, garnered attention from the likes of Rolling Stone and other national press and actually became somewhat of a sensation in Europe, with a number of magazines calling it one of the year’s best. This press caught the attention of Roger Trust, A&R for Beggars Banquet and after catching a live show, he signed them up.

On April 12, Beggars will release The National’s third album, Alligator. It was engineered by Paul Mahajan (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio) and produced and mixed by Peter Katis (Interpol, Robbers On High Street). Keep an eye out for this one and be sure to keep these guys on your radar.
