Things were going pretty damn well for Kings Of Leon. Their album Aha Shake Heartbreak is doing well in the UK and is nearing release in the US. They are selling out shows and even secured the opening spot for U2’s upcoming “Vertigo” world tour. I guess something had to finally give, and it did. Frontman Caleb Followill has suffered a serious hand injury, which has forced the band to cancel their current European dates and come back to the States. Here is the statement from the band’s official website:
“Kings of Leon regretfully announce the postponement of their February plans in Japan. Suffering from a chronic injury, Caleb Followill saw a specialist over the weekend who ordered the cancellation to allow the guitarist’s hand to heal. Followill, the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist, was told that constant guitar playing has severely exacerbated an injury he has had for weeks, and that, without a break in performing, he would face permanent damage.”
“The postponement comes at a time when Kings of Leon are busier than ever, still promoting the European and Asian release of their sophomore album, Aha Shake Heartbreak, and just one month before its February 22 U.S. release. The healed hand is imperative to maintaining months worth of plans surrounding their U.S. release, such as an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman on February 21 and an appearance on Last Call With Carson Daly, which will air the following week.”
With the band’s upcoming tour dates under two week away, it is not yet known if there will be any further cancellations. We wish Caleb a speedy recovery.
