Pulp Have Not Broken Up!

Can I geek out for a minute? Please? Ok, thanks. As most everyone knows my all time favorite band ever is Pulp. Hell, even my AIM screen name is a rip-off of one of their songs. So it should come as no surprise that if there is any news whatsoever in camp Pulp that I am going to report it.

If you were not aware, their last album (We Love Life) came out in 2001 and shortly after there were rumors of a breakup. Frontman Jarvis Cocker was newly married and a father, and they were each concentrating on solo projects. (Remember Relaxed Muscle, and the short news of Jarvis in the new Harry Potter?) Their fan site Pulp Online even came to a standstill. This was pretty much it until this little article popped up on Gigwise.

In an interview with 6 Music, Jarvis Cocker has revealed that Pulp have not disappeared forever, they are merely in a “hibernation”. He told the site, “We’re far too lazy for that kind of dramatic-ness. Pulp, as I’m sure you kind of know, has undergone many periods of hibernation and stuff. I don’t know whether we’ll do anything again. I’ve been doing Pulp since I was 15 years old and I’m now a 41 year old man. Even though we’ve never released that many records I was always doing it and I just thought ‘I’ll try summat else’. I’ve been writing some songs. When I’ve got enough ones that I think are fit for human consumption then I’ll try and decide what to do with them. The main thing that I’ve done recently is to write some songs for the Harry Potter film, but that’s just a shameless effort to try and ingratiate myself with kids.”

Can someone smell new material in the air?
