By now you have seen the cover art for Coldplay’s upcoming new album X&Y. If not, look to the right and you will see the cover in all of its Tetris-like glory. So what in the hell is it? It seems the folks at XFM have finally cracked the mystery behind this abstract art. It turns out that the blocks are graphical representations based on some form of binary code called “Baudot”. Brace yourself for the next part of the explanation. The code generates a “base5 binary representation for each letter or character in the western alphabet.” Confused? Me too. So what does it all mean? Simply, the blocks translate to X&Y. I am sure you will all sleep better tonight knowing the mystery behind this very odd album artwork.
