Coldplay Makes History In The US

A round of congrats are in order! Coldplay has entered the record books here in the US as the first British band to debut in the top 10 singles chart since the Beatles. Nice job Mr. Martin! The group’s new single “Speed Of Sound” is the second time a UK band has achieved such a feat. The Beatles were the first to debut in the US top 10 with their ’68 hit “Hey Jude.” According to the BBC, this marks the highest new entry since American Idol’s Fantasia debuted at number one last July. I weep for the music industry.

Coldplay’s “Clocks” was their biggest hit up until now, reaching #29 back in 2003. With the momentum already building behind this new single, one can assume that their upcoming album X&Y is going to be huge. We are cheering them on, as it would be nice seeing Coldplay on the charts above 50 Cent. Go Coldplay Go! X&Y is due out in stores on June 7 here in the US.
