The effort to keep the legendary CBGB’s rock venue open in NYC has required looking for new ways to raise funds in order to save it from eviction. The latest idea is that of a thirty-date festival to save the punk rock club. According to Billboard, club founder Hilly Kristal said he would invite Patti Smith, David Byrne and many of the other acts that performed at CBGB’s on their way to stardom.
Kristal spoke yesterday about other artists he would consider booking for the tour, where he said: “If the Beastie Boys are around, I think they’d play. Green Day came in one night and just played. Maybe they’d come back.”
He added that musicians not typically associated with CBGB’s could be called on for help, and even mentioned that country star Alan Jackson was a fan of the venue. Yeehaw! Desperate times call for desperate measures, so bring it on!
