New Round Of Director’s Label DVDs To Arrive This Summer

Following the critical and commercial success of their first three volumes, Palm Pictures and the Directors Label have announced another round of DVDs. On September 13, the work of Directors Anton Corbijn, Jonathan Glazer, Mark Romanek and Stephane Sednaoui will be individually released on DVD. A boxed set edition with all four individual titles will also be released simultaneously. Like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham, these four directors have each made a substantial impact on the world of music videos and popular culture and like the past releases, the forthcoming DVDs will feature music videos, shorts, commercials and special features like interviews, alternate versions, documentaries and behind the scenes footage.

Just in case that doesn’t sound enticing enough, each will be specially packaged with never-before-seen photos, storyboards, and drawings. I’m sure you’d recognize their work, but just in case you aren’t familiar with their names, here’s some info on each director:

Mark Romanek has directed Michael & Janet’s “Scream” video and Johnny Cash’s “Hurt”, as well as videos for Beck, Bowie, REM and tons more. He has won over 20 VMAs and three Grammys and two of his videos have even become part of the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Jonathan Glazer is perhaps best known for his commercials, which include spots for Stella Artois, Guinness, Levi’s, and VW. He’s also released feature films like Sexy Beast and Birth and directed videos for UNKLE, Radiohead, Jamiroquai, Blur and Massive Attack.

Anton Corbijn is known for his acclaimed photography, highly sought after books, eye-catching album art and videos for the likes of Nirvana, Metallica and even the Killers. He is currently working on his feature film directorial debut, Control, about the life & death of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis.

Stephane Sednaoui, a Parisian-turned-New Yorker, is known for his unique photographic style, celebrity portraiture, advertising print, and photojournalism. His breakthrough video was The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Give It Away”. He’s gone on to direct videos for U2, REM and Bjork, to name a few.
