Siren Festival Brings Spoon, The Dears, More

Break out the bottled water and sunblock, as the 5th Annual Village Voice Siren Music Festival is coming. Coney Island will be crammed with pasty NYC hipsters on July 16th, who will devour corny dogs, cheap beer, and get a chance to hear some pretty sweet bands as well. When you dangle a huge outdoor concert for free in front of broke east coast music fans, they will come in droves (myself included). Last year’s festival attracted more than 170,000 people, and with this year’s stellar lineup one could assume that even more will make the trek to Coney Island this summer.

A selection of this year’s performers have been announced, including Spoon, Mates Of State, Brendan Benson, VHS Or Beta, Dungen, Q And Not U and The Dears. Although more bands will be announced soon, this is already quite an impressive lineup. The festivities will kick off at noon, which gives us all plenty of time to get one fantastic sunburn. If you listen closely enough in between bands, you can actually hear the sound of pale hipsters cooking in the sun.
