If you have listened to Franz Ferdinand’s debut album, you may have been subjected to subliminal messages. Yes, it is true. According to NME, the band has confessed to embedding a hidden message within their debut album, and they plan on doing it again.
In an interview with MTV, frontman Alex Kapranos said: “There was that trend in the ‘70s and ‘80s of back-masking, where you’d put the most terrible satanic messages on songs, and we wanted to do the exact opposite, put the most positive thing we could think of as a backwards message. There’s one on the first record, at the beginning of the second verse in ‘Michael’, and we’re going to do that on this album, too.”
Those sneaky Scotts are currently mixing their second album in New York with engineer Rich Costey. Tracks rumored to be included on the upcoming release include “You Can Have It”, “Evil And A Heathen”, “Your Diary” and “Robert Anderson Is Christ”. Kapranos told Billboard that they still have a couple of weeks left in the studio, and that the new record is “definitely going to be better than the first album.” The as-yet-untitled release could be out as early as September.
