Go team Canada! Just in case there was any second guessing about just how rad the current stream of Canadian indie rock outfits can be, indie-pop outfit Stars has just announced plans for a remix album centered around the their third album, Set Yourself On Fire. Why does that make Canadians rad? Good question. What makes them rad, slightly incestuous, and awesome all way around is the fact that the remixes will be done by Stars’ Canadian brethren, colleagues and friends like Caribou, Junior Boys, Broken Social Scene, Metric and The Dears. Inspired by the 2004 Super Furries remix album, Phantom Phorce, or perhaps the Faint’s Danse Macabre Remixes, each band will try their hand at reworking a track off of Stars’ incredible Set Yourself On Fire LP.
“We’re hoping that they will bring us something that will make us look at the songs a little differently,” Stars’ Torquil Campbell told Billboard.com. “And they are all people who listened to the record a lot and are all close friends of ours, so it’s kind of an interesting experiment from our point of view. It’s kind of like saying to your friends, ‘If you were going to decorate our apartment, how would you do it? Using all of the things that are in there, how would you rearrange the furniture and what color would you paint the walls?’”

Stars will kick off a quick Midwest/East Coast tour next week in Detroit. They’ll then head overseas to spend some time on the European festival circuit and to set up the European release of Set Yourself On Fire, which will street there at the end of August.
