Franz Ferdinand And Kanye West Swap Musical Ideas

Franz Ferdinand are looking to some unexpected places as inspiration for their second album. The Scottish band met Kanye West earlier this year and immediately hit it off. When they were introduced at the MTV Europe Awards, Franz frontman Alex Kapranos admitted that West has been an influence in their next record. He told NME: “We’ve been talking a lot about production and we really feel the most cutting edge stuff is being done in the world of hip hop right now. Kanye West’s a good example. We met him at the MTV Europe Awards and we were talking for quite a while. I think that’s maybe where we’ll look for inspiration on the next record.”

So their rock will be influenced by cutting edge hip hop, but did West gain any musical ideas from Franz? Apparently so. During this infamous MTV Europe Awards chat, West told the band how much he liked their “grimy” drum sound. He said: “I wanted to know how they got their sound. I was asking them all types of questions. I told them they were my favorite band, there’s a bit of their feel in my new album.”

Perhaps the next step in this blossoming relationship would be some sort of collaboration. Kanye Ferdinand does have a nice ring to it.
