BBC Radio 1 Picked Up By Sirius

Tired of listening to the same old crap on the radio dial? Granted, there are a few gems out there in radioland, but those are becoming more difficult to find by the day. A breath of fresh air to the US will be beamed from the UK to Sirius Satellite Radio, which will begin broadcasting the influential BBC Radio 1 this summer.

Andy Parfitt, controller of Radio 1, said: “This is such an exciting development. Radio 1 already has a strong international reputation amongst music fans around the world, including the US. Now the station can be heard easily across America. With our commitment to great new UK music we hope that we can help British acts make inroads into the massive US music market.”

The broadcast will be delayed so that US listeners will be able to enjoy the BBC programming during their proper daypart. Although I am thrilled that the great Radio 1 will be beamed in to the US, I also hope that this will get some US programmers off their asses to get our own country’s radio back on track. I know this is doubtful, but I can always dream. Until then, I will happily enjoy broadcasts from Radio 1’s talented airstaff, including Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq.
