New Album From Sigur Ros To Sound Like Korn?

Although there has already been a flood of so-called “big albums” released this year by various artists, one band to keep an eye on in 2005 is Iceland’s Sigur Ros. After turning the musical world upside down with their 1999 masterpiece ágætis byrjun, the group found themselves selling half a million copies and touring with Radiohead. The quartet has wrapped up work on their latest album, due out in September on Geffen Records in the US.

According to the band’s official website, the new album will contain 11 tracks, clocking in at around 65 minutes. Tracks reportedly making it on the record include “Gong” and “Milano”. Rather than the 10+ minute orchestral songs we are accustomed to from Sigur Ros, the group has gone for more of a short pop/rock structure for their new material.

In a recent interview, keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson said they are making the sound of their new album “more solid.” He explained: “We are aiming for a Korn and Papa Roach kind of thing.” I will now admit that I am a bit concerned. After recording for nearly twenty months, they are making comparisons to Korn? Is the world coming to an end? I guess we will have to wait until September to hear it for ourselves.
