Is it possible to gather the UK’s top rock bands together to record new songs for release in exactly one month? Although this may seem like an impossible feat, some pretty heavy hitters are lined up to record material for a new album in aid of War Child.
War Child is a network of independent organizations working to help children affected by war. Originally established in 1993, they released the Help CD compilation in 1995, making the fastest-ever number one album in British history.
The concept of this new musical project is to give some of the best bands of our time one day to record a new piece of music. The new songs compiled will be released online on September 9th, exactly one month from today. A CD, to be titled Help: A Day In The Life, will be released a few weeks later.
The list of participating bands is quite impressive, including Radiohead, Gorillaz, Razlorlight, The Zutons, Manic Street Preachers, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, The Coral, Elbow and Maximo Park.
Mark Waddington, the CEO of War Child, told NME: “As a music fan, I know what the original Help album meant and as the present CEO of War Child I know what it achieved. It was my intention that any new album we made in 2005 should match up to the feats of the past. That’s why we have set ourselves the challenge of remaking history and releasing the fastest album ever… again! It’s a tall order but we feel with the support of amazing artists we can make it happen and help a new generation of children affected by war.”
