Radiohead fans have been eagerly waiting for any news regarding any word on the progress of their next album. Frontman Thom Yorke informed his fans via the band’s official website that they began work in a “proper studio” yesterday. Although they have been doing some work in their own studio since early 2004, this marks the first real step forward for the group’s seventh studio album.
The big question on our mind right now is about their label deal. With the release of 2003’s Hail To The Thief, Radiohead have completed their recording contract with EMI. It is safe to assume that the band will have no problem whatsoever landing a deal with any number of record companies, so who will it be?
In a statement on Radiohead.com, Yorke commented that they have “no record contract as such. Any offers? What we would like is the old EMI back again, the nice genteel arms manufacturers who treated music a nice side project [and] weren’t [too] bothered about the shareholders.” It is also interesting to point out that this post has since been removed from Yorke’s online journal.
With a new album in the works and no current record label deal, the next year or so will be an interesting time for the band.
