Big Star’s Alex Chilton Missing In New Orleans?

The last thing we all need is another piece of bad news stemming from the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, but this might not be as bad as first thought. Over the weekend, news reports went out that Alex Chilton, key member of the endlessly-influential Memphis-based rock & roll group Big Star, was feared missing in New Orleans. Chilton, who decided to stay at his New Orleans home during the storm (according to a Rykodisc spokeswoman), is listed on the missing persons page at the Times-Picaune website. However, now it seems that Chilton might be OK. According to a post on his Yahoo group by “Lisa,” Alex’s family heard from him on Sunday and say that he is officially safe. If any of you have been following this story, it seems we can all now breathe a tentative sigh of relief. Our best wishes go out to Chilton, his family, and everyone affected by the disaster.
