Everybody is allowed to change their mind, which fortunately for Blur fans frontman Damon Albarn has done regarding his thoughts on the group’s upcoming new album. Earlier this year, Damon stated that Blur would not record another album without former guitarist Graham Coxon. It seems that good ol’ Graham has zero desire to work with his bandmates again, which could have been the nail in the coffin for any chance of a follow-up to Think Tank. Well, Albarn has changed his tune and the group will go on without Coxon.
In a recent interview with NME, Albarn said: “There is a Blur record at the moment but it’s very basic. The reason why it’s so basic is we decided that if we’re going to make another record it’s just got to be the three of us and I’ve got to play guitar. And because I’m such a rudimentary guitarist it has to be really stupid and basic punk rock.”
As if Blur and Gorillaz aren’t keeping Albarn busy enough, he has also been working on his first solo album. He said the album will be similar to his Mali Music side project in that it will have a global sound. “I’m halfway through a record that I started in Nigeria last year,” said Albarn. “I suppose will end up being my first solo record, although I hate the term ’solo record’.” Joy!
