Sonic Youth Record Sonic Life

Sonic Youth is currently in pre-production for their next studio album, appropriately titled Sonic Life. In an interview with Belgian magazine De Morgen, singer Kim Gordon let the cat out of the bad that this would be the last LP that the band (who has been around since 1981) would make for Geffen, and it would be “very song orientated”. In addition rumors are that long time band member Jim O’Rourke will not be affiliated with Sonic Life at all.

Do these two things mean the end of Sonic Youth is near? Surely it doesn’t, and this is just another minor setback in the band’s story. One good thing to report, back in 1999 the band’s whole vanload of custom equipment was stolen. Now, almost six years later, an unidentified fan came forward and said one of his family members was guilty of the robbery and promised to return most of the equipment back. Better late than never.
