The Return Of The Rentals

As rumors surrounding the future of Weezer continue to point towards the end of the band, former founding bass player Matt Sharp’s group The Rentals has suddenly shown signs of life. The band celebrated their tenth anniversary this year, as Return Of The Rentals hit stores back in 1995. Remember that album? C’mon you can admit it, we all loved their single “Friends Of P”. Feel free to sing along – “if you’re friends with P, well then you’re friends with me.”

The last peep we heard from the Rentals was back in 1997, with their album Seven More Minutes. Eight years later, Matt Sharp has decided to gather his fellow bandmates back together, which was announced on their official website. A statement simply reads: “THE BAND IS CURRENTLY IN LOS ANGELES WRITING, REHEARSING, AND PREPARING TO RECORD THEIR 3rd STUDIO ALBUM.”

So that is it. No other information is available yet, but perhaps we will hear the synth-tastic return of the Rentals at some point in 2006. It should be interesting to see which original members of the band return for this record, such as SNL cast member Maya Rudolph. Doubtful, but ya never know…
