Goal! Soundtrack Is A Major Score

I had a friend pass me some info on this film called Goal! that’s currently playing in theaters in the UK. The film is a moving story of a kid from the mean streets of LA that winds up realizing his dream and becomes a member of the UK football team, Newcastle United. It sounds like a cool story and all, especially if you like soccer (or football, or whatever), but the real reason for giving you all a heads up on this is the film’s soundtrack. The 14-track disc features a bunch of great songs from the likes of A Band Of Bees, Kasabian, Zero 7, Dirty Vegas and UNKLE, but that isn’t even the entire story. While those bands all donated previously-released tracks, a couple of Britpop legends contributed previously-unreleased material for the project.

The Happy Mondays lead off the soundtrack with “Playground Superstar”, their first release as a group since 1992, while Oasis offer up a new Noel Gallagher-penned track, “Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders?”, and two previously-unreleased mixes of some classic hits – an UNKLE remix of “Cast No Shadow” and a Dave Sardy mix of “Morning Glory”.

The soundtrack is currently available as in import only.
