Swedish rock outfit The Sounds made quite an impact last week when they played the first of three scheduled US gigs in San Francisco to preview material from their forthcoming new album, Dying To Say This To You. The ’80s inspired synth-rock sensations played Aaron Axelsen’s long-standing Thursday night rock & roll party, Popscene, and by all accounts, kicked its ass. Prior to the shows start, there were over 1000 people lining the streets of Ritch and Townsend for blocks and a good 600 people were turned away when the club quickly reached capacity, but that didn’t stop the band from selling over 1K in merch and putting on a show that those who actually made it inside will be talking about for years.
Following the show, the band mounted a massive poster-signing campaign to try to keep their fans (the ones that never made it in) happy. Popscene also took some steps to make sure the 600+ that were turned away stayed happy, as they’ve agreed to put them all on a two for one guest list for this week’s party.
The Sounds will play their last US show of ‘05 this Thursday at the Hiro Ballroom in NYC. Get ready.
