Bob Dylan Goes To Broadway?

First he gets his own XM radio show and now he’s headed to Broadway? Well, not quite yet. A new musical called The Times They Are A-Changin’ will debut at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater on January 24. The play, which chronicles the tale of a low-rent traveling circus run by Captain Arab and the longings of his son for a life outside the family biz, is directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran Twyla Tharp. Referencing tunes like “Bob Dylan’s 15th Dream,” “Ballad Of Hollis Brown,” amongst many others, the show will run through March 5 with eventual plans to move to Broadway.

Apparently the lackluster runs of similar musicals like the John Lennon-inspired Lennon, the Elvis-inspired All Shook Up and The Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations were not indication enough that maybe, just maybe it takes more to duplicate the stunning success of Movin’ Out and Mamma Mia than just nabbing some old hits, throwing in some dance moves and working up a loose plot line. Good luck Bob Dylan musical. You’re going to need it.
