Starbucks To Dabble In Movies

It should come as no surprise that Starbucks is expanding its role in promoting entertainment-related products. We know that the can sell records, which they proved by cranking out deals with Alanis Morissette, Bob Dylan, and many others. The mega coffee chain is now preparing to promote movies, as they have recently signed their first deal to market a film.

The flick is titled Akleelah And The Bee, starring Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. According to BBC News, Starbucks will offer previews, sell the soundtrack and eventually sell the DVD in their locations.

Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz told the BBC: “Just as we have demonstrated with music, we believe that Starbucks can ultimately change the rules of the game for film marketing and distribution.”

Will blurry-eyed, grumpy, coffee addicted commuters such as myself be interested in previewing a new film before we consume our grande-sized heart rate boosting cup of java? Looks like we won’t have to wait long to find out.
