Arctic Monkeys Could Have Fastest Selling Album Ever In UK

So what exactly qualifies a new group to be categorized as a “buzz band”? That term is tossed around quite a bit these days, yet nothing ever really happens with their albums. As so many overly hyped bands have fallen flat in terms of record sales, the UK’s Arctic Monkeys have proven that they are far more than just a group fueled by press and a fanatical base of followers. Their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, could be the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history.

Music industry-types have stated that the album has already sold more than 100,000 copies, which was 40,000 more than was originally predicted. Let me clarify that, as the band sold more than 100,000 copies in one day! If they continue to sell at this rate, the band could clear 350,000 copies in one week.

Music shops around England are having a tough time keeping the album on their shelves, and many are concerned that they could sell out by the end of the week. Arctic Monkeys could very well have the first million-selling album for 2006 in the UK. Congrats lads!

Monkey mania has invaded our shores as well, as their single “When The Sun Goes Down” is currently out at specialty and college radio. Watch the video for this single by clicking here.
