Weezer As The Velvet Underground???

OK, I am still sorting out my feelings on this one. Members of Weezer have recorded a cover of The Velvet Underground’s classic “Heroin” for the upcoming film Factory Girl. Drummer Patrick Wilson and guitarist Brian Bell covered the tune for the film, which is about the life of the Andy Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick.

The =W= dudes also star in the movie as members of the legendary group. In the film, Bell was selected to portray Lou Reed, while Wilson will do his best John Cale impersonation. I tried to think of a smart-ass remark about this, but I have been left speechless. Weezer as the Velvet Underground? C’mon!!!!

After prodding around a bit, I found a recent New York Daily News story on which the great Lou Reed discusses his feelings about this film. He said: “I read that script. It’s one of the most disgusting, foul things I’ve seen – by any illiterate retard – in a long time. There’s no limit to how low some people will go to write something to make money.”

Patrick Wilson feels otherwise, as he posted positive comments on his own personal blog. He stated: “The script is sweet and confidence is high that this movie won’t suck.” Dude, there is nothing better than a film with a sweet script. Yeah, that was sarcasm.

How about Reed’s thoughts on director George Hickenlooper and his cast? “They’re all a bunch of whores”, he replied.
