The UK’s XFM recently announced the addition of a Manchester frequency, which will launch on March 15. To capitalize on the city’s rich musical heritage, several Mancunian rockers will be hosting shows on the new station, including Elbow’s Guy Garvey, former Smiths’ man Andy Rourke and Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon.
Rourke and Garvey have signed up to host weekend shows for XFM Manchester, as well as Factory Records’ one and only Tony Wilson. Clint Boon is set to host the program “Music:Response” on Monday through Thursday, which features the listeners’ chart. Legendary Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam will take over Friday nights, spinning new and classic indie anthems to help bring in the weekend.
XFM Network Managing Director Nick Davidson is mighty excited about the launch of the latest addition to the family. He said: “I couldn’t be more excited about the line-up. Sometimes I can’t work out whether I’m putting together a radio station or forming Manchester’s best ever band. This city has been crying out for a station like Xfm, which was born out of music from the Madchester era. It’s a momentous occasion for a city like ours, which has been starved of a radio station with a passion for credible indie-rock music.”
Citizens of Manchester, words cannot express the jealousy I am currently feeling. Hey XFM… how about launching a US frequency? New York City could sure use a damn good alternative rock station. Help us!!!!
