Unsigned – Foreign Islands Tomorrow In NYC

Brooklyn’s Foreign Islands formed less than a year ago when well-known NYC night life personality Mark Ryan teamed up with friend and producer Dean Baltulonis. After recruiting three more members to round out the band, they recorded a self-titled debut EP and self-released that puppy in August of ‘05. Their form of post-punk dance music has earned the band a solid reputation amongst NYC partygoers, providing said partygoers with ample opportunity to shake their asses without feeling like sissies. You don’t even have to take my word for it either. Tart Of Pleasure, blogger, label owner and all around pop culture guru Sarah Lewitinn (Ultragrrl) has been singing their praises for months.

Foreign Islands are reportedly close to inking a deal with Nude Records in the UK (Suede, Black Box Recorder, Duels) for a few singles. Some US labels have shown interest as well, but nothing is set in stone… yet.

The band will be performing tomorrow night at the Mercury Lounge with Leeds-based Black Wire and hometown heroes, Overnight, two equally impressive and engaging acts. Foreign Islands go on at 8:30, followed by Black Wire and Overnight. The Tripwire will be there with bells on, so come out and say hi.
