Austin: Forward, Russia! @ The Levi’s/FADER Trading Post

The Levi’s/FADER Trading Post is in full swing, with Forward, Russia! wrapping up their high-intensity set as the temperature and humidity continues to climb. As I wandered back over to Tripwire HQ, I had to push my way through the sweaty crowd of hipsters getting a good dance workout to the band’s high-intensity set.

OK, so the disco-dance-rock thing has been done over and over again. Well, Forward, Russia! have set themselves apart from the rest partially due to the vocal acrobats of main man Tom. His spastic falsetto combined with an insane stage presence got the hipsters sweating away all those alcoholic beverages from last night, making room for more Red Stripes!

I have to give mad props to their drummer Katie, who beat the living hell out of the skins. Bassist Rob and guitarist Whiskas kept the band in check, making sure that the chaos on stage never derailed mid-song. While they may sound American, this disco-fueled maelstrom of insanity hails from Leeds, UK. Time to run down and catch Jose Gonzalez, who is going on in just 5 minutes.
