The Smiths To “Reunite” On Sirius

OK, so you hopefully noticed that reunite was in quotes on the title of this news article, right? Just to clarify, the legendary Manchester group The Smiths are NOT getting back together. Rumor has it that the band turned down an impressive $5 million to reunite for one show at this year’s Coachella, so I’d say any other chances of this actually happening down the road are pretty much toast.

So, with no chance of Morrissey and Marr putting the band back together, Sirius Satellite Radio’s First Wave channel is combining the music of The Smiths with the solo work of the Mozzer all this weekend. Not much of a reunion, but it will be pretty sweet to hear songs such as “Hand In Glove” followed by “Suedehead.” Their Smiths-Morrissey music weekend kicks off Friday night/Saturday morning at midnight, running through 3am EST on Monday morning.

The programming will include the world-premier of Morrissey’s new album, Ringleader Of The Tormentors, which hits stores next Tuesday in the US. The channel will also include rare and live tracks from The Smiths, which should please even the most die-hard of fans. If you happen to subscribe to Sirius, tune to channel 22 for non-stop Moz & The Smiths. If you are like me and have no way to listen, click over to the Mozfather’s official website where you can view his e-card as well as the video for his latest single, “You Have Killed Me.”
