Sufjan Stevens Wins New Pantheon Music Prize

Shocker. The indiest album of the year, Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois, took home the inaugural New Pantheon Music Prize, beating out the likes of the Arcade Fire, Fiona Apple, M.I.A., Antony And The Johnsons and more. Sufjan gets to take home 5K in cold hard cash and a trophy.

I recall something from a press release earlier this year about New Pantheon forming alliances with radio, TV and internet broadcasters and a February 6 ceremony/concert where the winner would be crowned. According to a spokesperson, “logistical reasons” prevented the concert/ceremony from taking place.

And, well… that’s pretty much it. Sorta anti-climactic if you ask me.
