Rivers Cuomo May Never Record Again

Rivers Cuomo, head honcho of Weezer, dropped a nugget of potential sadness during a recent interview on MTV. He said that the band could very well be broken up, as they have gone on an indefinite hiatus.

He revealed: “For the moment we are done. And I’m not certain we’ll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one.”

Cuomo hinted that he has been working on new material, although he is unsure that it will ever see the light of day. He said: “All this year, I’ve been feeling pretty creative and excited, so I’ve been writing a lot. I don’t know what’ll happen with these songs – if anything – I just sort of write them and I can’t stop. I certainly don’t see them becoming Weezer songs, and I don’t really see the point of a solo career. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

So what exactly is the point of working on new material if you have no plans on releasing them? Don’t cry my little indie kids, as I have a feeling that we will see more tunes from Cuomo at some point. Look at the gap between Pinkerton (1996) and the “Green Album” (2001). We may just have to wait half a decade.
