The Decemberists’ debut for Captiol Records, The Crane Wife, will hit stores on October 3, and was co-produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) and Tucker Marine (Laura Veris). Shortly after the release of the album, a North American tour will follow. Also, a dollar from each ticket bought via the pre-sale (or the band’s website) will go towards Ethos. Ethos provides music education programs to students regardless of their school and family’s income.
Decemberists’ songwriter and front man, Colin Meloy, first came across the story of The Crane Wife several years ago in the children’s section of a local bookstore. The story is a Japanese folk tale that’s been handed down in countless variations and translations through the centuries and has stayed with Meloy ever since first hearing it. Keep in mind that as easy as it would be to call this a concept album, it isn’t. Guess we will have to wait until October to find out.
