Gallery: Phoenix @ The Double Door | CHI

As you probably know, last weekend brought the Pitchfork Festival to Chicago. Last weekend also brought sweltering heat… so what better way to “warm up” for two days of standing in 100 degree weather and sweating through your clothes than going into an insanely hot and sticky rock club with no air conditioning. If they do have air conditioning, it must have been on the fritz or something, because it was very nearly unbearable.

Regardless of the sweat-covered people and pits of hell-like temperatures, Phoenix and the French Kicks rolled into town to kick the weather in the nuts for some of corporate sponsored event (I think Camel cigarettes). It was a private event that also included DJ sets by Rob and Darren of local indie champs The Changes. Unfortunately, I missed the French Kicks in favor of seeing comedian Todd Barry @ the official Pitchfork party thing.

Anyway, Phoenix were great. Their set list was culled from the full extent of their catalog. The crowd was REALLY into it. The band sounded tight, looked totally French and appeared to be having a blast. I got some pretty great shots of the band. Check them out below.
