Kaki King Hits The Road

In support of her third album, Until We Felt Red – released yesterday! – Kaki King is going on a fall tour, kicking off September 7 in NYC. This album, and tour, will be a change from her usual acoustic guitar awesomeness – Kaki King has gone electric, and she even sings on some tracks. Also, she is no longer performing solo, as she recently recruited a band to join her live shows – drummer Matt Kankle (Blue Man Group) and keyboardist Dave Archer.

Until We Felt Red was financed entirely by Kaki herself, without any help from a label. She only enlisted help from a management team and her first label, Velour Music Group, to release the album.

This tour is under the fourth annual Yellow Umbrella Tour – a concert series created by cervical cancer survivor and musician Christine Baze. Baze will be supporting King on all dates, not only performing, but also educating the audience about cervical cancer’s causes and prevention. Some of the proceeds from the tour will go to popsmear.org, a non-profit organization created by Baze to raise awareness about cervical cancer.

Win Tickets To See FELA! On Broadway

We’re not sure Fela Kuti’s epic story should be told in any other format besides the musical, and we don’t even like musicals!  That said, it just so happens we’re giving away two tickets to see the show for zero dollars. All you need to do is leave us a haiku in the comments before [...]
