Last night marked Adem’s second NYC performance this year, once again taking the stage all by his lonesome. This time the UK art-folk-pop artist was without his trusty harmonium, which didn’t survive his trip from Germany. His songs that were normally performed with the harmonium were rearranged for acoustic guitar, giving us a very different experience than at his Joe’s Pub show in August. He once again performed Bjork’s “Unravel” on ukulele, and the strange coconut music box instrument reappeared as well. He also brought out six primary colored hand bells, which he used while improvising a new song on the spot as he read from a collection of children’s stories that were recently given to him. I believe the specific story was The Little Red Fox.
