It’s no secret that the vast majority of musicians (especially the bands we cover on Tripwire) sadly do not have any health insurance. This is a real problem, as one serious (or even not-so-serious) accident or medical problem can leave an artist with a stack of medical bills no benefit show could possibly cover.
Well Washington, DC-based Future Of Music Coalition is doing their part to change this dangerous “norm” of the music world. The organization has started a new initiative called the Health Insurance Navigation Tool (HINT), a health insurance guidance program for musicians. A special website has been set up to provide invaluable information on the topic and the organization is also offering free phone consultations with health insurance experts to discuss affordable heath coverage.
The FMC’s own Alex Maiolo and Chris Stephenson, both licensed insurance agents and touring musicians, will help any musician interested navigate the confusing process of procuring medical insurance, taking into account the unique needs and circumstances of musicians. Best of all, it’s FREE.
