Hacker Cracks iPod Copy Protection Code

If you are sick of only being able to use iTunes files on your iPod, those days might be over very soon. Although I have never complained about it, as Apple’s music store is ridiculously easy to navigate, hacker Jon Lech Johansen got tired of the man telling him what he can and can’t put on his portable music player. According to an article in Reuters, Johansen has cracked Apple’s code that keeps iPod owners from playing songs from competing online music stores.

It didn’t take long for the hacker to sell his code to a company for licensing. DoubleTwist is the company he has selected to license his program, so perhaps he wasn’t as concerned about the man keeping him down as he was in making a little cash. Regardless, you may soon be able to download from various other online music stores if that floats your boat. For now, I’ll just stick to iTunes.
