The Stands’ Howie Payne Debuts Solo Material

We were introduced to Howie Payne two years ago with the release of The Stands’ debut LP All Years Leaving. Noel Gallagher was a huge fan of their Kinks meets The Byrds pop songs, which helped give the band a boost in the press. The band’s sophomore album, Horse Fabulous, was never released domestically. By the end of 2005, Payne decided it was time to end The Stands and move on.

Nearly a year later, he is working on material for an upcoming solo album. A few tunes are posted on his MySpace page, giving us a sample of what he has been up to. His sound hasn’t shifted too much from his days fronting The Stands, and I am just glad that he is still making great music. For our friends in the UK, he has announced one live date, November 10 at The Static Gallery in Liverpool.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until the release of Payne’s solo record. Until then, enjoy a few songs here: myspace.com/howiepayne
