Attention Audiophiles: Meet The Lost Formats Preservation Society



Remember Mini Discs? Of course you do. How about the Pocket Disc (1966-1969), or the Diamond Disc (the first vinyl disc, created by Thomas Edison in 1912)? Not so much? Well whether you’re an uber geek when it comes to recording/video/computing/gaming technology, or just have a casual curiosity about some of the audio/video formats that have brought us to where we are today, you’re sure to find the Lost Formats Preservation Society compelling.

Currently with 64 formats in their database, the Lost Formats Preservation Society was founded in 2000 with the sole purpose of saving formats from obscurity. Each format comes with the following info: Dimensions, Storage Capacity, Manufacturer, and a brief description. Click the link below to check it out for yourself, you can even submit your own additions to the database.
