DJ Shadow Signs To Universal

Josh Davis, the hip hop genius also known as DJ Shadow, has recently signed to Universal Records just in time to put out his third solo album. Davis is currently putting the finishing touches on the follow up to his ‘02 sophomore effort, The Private Press, due out later this summer.

This marks the first album produced under his own name to feature guest vocalists. Keak Da Sneak, Turf Talk, Q-Tip and David Banner are listed as a few of the contributors on the release, among others. Shadow posted the video for the first single off the album, “3 Freaks,” on his official website. The sound of the new single is definitely a bit more mainstream than I had expected, but I guess it is hard to pass up Diddy-sized hit single money. If this track is an indication of the album’s sound, gone are mind-blowing beats and sick samples, replaced by radio-friendly jams. At least we will always have Endtroducing.
