The Rentals Are Back

Although we reported that The Rentals were back in action back in October, the band has officially broken the silence about their current status as well as announcing the addition of new band members. Their official website once again mentioned that the group, fronted by ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp, is currently writing and rehearsing in preparation of their third LP.

The Rentals’ new lineup includes founding members Sharp and Rachel Haden, along with newcomers Sara Radle (vocals/various instruments), Ben Pringle (synth), Lauren Chipman (viola/vocals) and Dan Joeright (drums). I am especially thrilled to see Radle as a new member of the group, as I have followed her career since her earlier days back in Dallas, performing with Lucy Loves Schroeder as well as on her own solo projects. You can check out some of her tunes on MySpace. Nice seeing such a great musician line up with one of my favorite groups of the ’90s. “Friends Of P.” was the jam!

After a decade long absence from performing in Los Angeles, The Rentals are returning to the stage on July 7th at the Henry Fonda Theatre. They are then heading to Japan for two nights at the Yokohama Arena. Sharp and his bandmates hope to have more worldwide dates to announce soon, along with the release of their next album in 2007.
