Idlewild Side Projects

I first heard of Idlewild when a friend of mine from the UK sent me a 7″ of their single “When I Argue I See Shapes.” After making music together for over a decade, it should come as no big surprise that a few side projects are now in the works. Frontman Roddy Woomble has taken the plunge into solo material, with his first album due out in the UK on July 24. Titled My Secret Is My Silence, the record was produced by John McCuster, one of Scotland’s foremost traditional musicians.

Roddy isn’t the only Idlewild member working outside the band, as guitarist Rod Jones is currently completing a project with one of our favorite artists, Inara George. The two met during her tour last year, quickly becoming friends and beginning work on the album last Decemeber. The tunes were recorded by Rod and Inara with some help from Dave Eringa, who has worked in the past with Idlewild. Although no release date is listed, they are hinting at sometime this autumn.
