Arctic Monkeys Win Mercury Prize


Say what you will about the hype, apparently some people are believers in it. Arctic Monkeys have nabbed the Mercury Prize for 2006 with their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. In addition to bragging rights, the band received 20,000 pounds from Jools Holland.

When asked about winning the award, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner told NME, “Somebody call 999, Richard Hawley’s been robbed! Thanks to everyone that’s helped us. Normally it (the award) doesn’t go to a band that’s sold so many records, to be blunt.”
