Austin: Gallows @ Levi’s/FADER Fort

Day Three. The Tripwire curated day at the Levi’s/FADER Fort. With a crowd still a bit groggy from the night before, five lads from the UK opened with searing intensity. Those near the front will attest, The Gallows are insane.

Somewhat of a rarity act at The Fort, these punk/rockers ignited the crowd with a dry, fuck-you sense of humor and maddening audience participation. Right from the start, fiery frontman Frank Carter was offstage and creating mayhem in the pit. With some of the more impressive tattoos I’ve seen, Carter shook, swayed, bounced, yelled, sweat, spit, and choked across the venue. He was a skinny, red-headed Henry Rollins.

The rest of the band impressed us by taking Carter’s lead, jumping into the crowd, creating a bubble of photography, and more than a couple broken pieces of equipment. By the end The Fort was left two mics down, Carter was left minus one filling, and a the sound engineer was left minus one hat (which Carter took the liberty of stealing). In the end, The Gallows won over quite a few new fans, including Saul Williams who was front and center, eating it up. Its safe to say that Day Three has started off with ferocity.
