Cassette Tapes Find A New Life

It is pretty remarkable how quickly cassette tapes became obsolete. Although some still enjoy the art of the mixtape, many have abandoned the good ol’ tape for CD-Rs, flash drives, etc. Designboom has put together an interesting article on the history of cassettes in pop culture, ranging from Transformers in the ’80s to modern use as belt buckles and tape dispensers. The cassette USB memory stick is pretty rad.

My car still has a tape deck, so I continue to rock the almighty mixtape, although even I’ll admit that the iPod comes along for the ride much more frequently than any cassettes. Still, nothing helps pass the time on a long road trip better than an old-school mixtape. Give it up for analog!
