On The Cover – Seabear

WEEK ONE: PHOTO GALLERY + MP3

When we think of music coming from Iceland, bands such as Sigur Ros, Mum and of course the one and only Bjork immediately come to mind. Unlike these musically complex, somewhat experimental artists, Seabear is a bit more straightforward, simply offering honest, almost fragile songs of “nature, mortality and love.” In fact, if you didn’t hunt for their biography online, you might never have even realized that they came from the intriguing country of Iceland.

This seven-member group originally began as the one-man project of Sindri Mar Sigfusson. The twenty-four year old musician has a difficult time describing the music of Seabear, so we’ll just let you make up your own minds by checking out the MP3 below. We’ve fallen pretty hard for the folky-indie-dream-pop of Seabear and their album, The Ghost That Carried Us Away, which is out now on Morr Music.

The band is currently on tour overseas with their buddies Mum. Although they currently have no upcoming dates on our shores, we’re hoping that they’ll make their way over here soon. In the meantime, we’ll be highlighting Seabear over the next few weeks, including a Q&A with Sindri Mar Sigfusson. To get you a bit more familiar with the seven members of Seabear, check out the photo gallery below. The lads and ladies took these photos themselves while attending the Iceland Airwaves Festival. From the looks of these, they know how to have a good time!
