Austin: Sloan @ Levi’s/FADER Fort

You have to give some mad props to Sloan. These Canadian rockers have been making great music for over sixteen years, and on stage they sound just as good (if not better) than ever. For me, my introduction to the pop-rock stylings of Jay Ferduson, Patrick Pentland, Chris Murphy and Andrew Scott happened during my college days, when I discovered their ‘98 album Navy Blues. After following these guys for nearly a decade, tonight at the Fort marked my first chance to actually see them perform. Was it worth the wait? YES.

While their songs do have a pop flavor to them, on stage they do not hold back the rock. The sheer power from the guitars was simply awesome. With a sizeable number of years as a band behind them, it comes as no surprise that their musicianship was absolutely perfect. After hitting songs of old and new, including a few from their latest Yep Roc release Never Hear The End Of It, Sloan ended today’s Fort festivities on one hell of a high note.
