The Swimmers To Kick Off NYC Residency

A good friend of the Tripwire alerted us to the Philadelphia-based indie pop group The Swimmers. The band is comprised of former One Star Hotel frontman Steve Yutzy-Burkey, his wife Krista on keyboards, Rick Sleber on bass and Scott French on drums. We kinda like the fact that Burkey met French as pipe organ repairmen. The two would travel around Pennsylvania cleaning and altering the thousands of pipes in each organ, during which they started writing songs on the keyboard.

Their debut LP, Fighting Trees, is a great collection of sunny pop songs that we’ve been totally digging lately. For our readers in the NYC area, make sure you catch their month-long Sunday night residency at Pianos. They kick things off on the 11th and 10pm. To sample their music, they have tracks streaming on their official website as well as their MySpace page.
