Emily Haines Plays Special Summer Show, Honors Father

So many times we have commented on how we wish we lived in the UK so we could go to different events, but this time we *gasp* wish it was Canada. Yeah, you read that right. Before you check our heads, continue reading.

Emily Haines is going to be doing a special show on July 25 at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre. According to a message from Emily’s MySpace account, the concert is part of a series called “Generations,” and will highlight how art is passed down from generation to generation. The show will also coincide with the release of Emily’s father’s book, Secret Carnival Workers: The Paul Haines Reader. The book was compiled during the last three years by Emily and her family and consists of Paul’s poems, short fiction and music journalism from 1955-2002, and was edited by Stuart Broomer, former editor of Coda, the Canadian jazz music magazine. Paul Haines passed away in 2003 from heart failure.

If you are in the area and would like to attend this event, tickets can be purchased at the York Quay Centre Box Office for $25. Patrick Watson will also be playing before Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton hit the stage at 9:30pm.
